Hello Readers!
Are you one of the few unlucky guys having an old android phone which does not support reading SMSes/ WhatsApp messages in any devanagari (Hindi/ Marathi or other regional language)? Do you only see blocks/ square boxes when received any message in devnagari font?
Do not worry! You are at the right place. After following below steps you should be able to read SMSes/ WhatsApp messages in your own language.
For doing this you will need:
1. An Android device not supporting Devnagari font (or course otherwise you wouldn't be reading this!).
2. The device needs to be rooted (If it is not rooted, head to Google or XDA and root your device. Search and read all the material carefully before rooting your device. If you don't know what rooting is, refer this beautiful guide about Android root and related terms).
3. Font (.ttf) file of the font that you want to install (you can easily get this on internet).
4. A file explorer like ES File explorer or similar. You can get it free from Google play store.
If you have all these things ready, then you are good to go and install these fonts on your android phone. Its too easy to follow these steps now.
1. Just paste your font file (.ttf file) in /system/fonts/
2. Reboot your device and voila! You can read the SMSes and other messages in your own language.
We have tested this method on Idea Alcatel 918n which was having Android 2.3 – Gingerbread on it. After following above steps we could read SMSes and other messages in Hindi and Marathi!
A friendly note: Please follow the steps carefully for rooting and doing any other changes. If you do not know what you are doing, it's better not to do it. We'll not be responsible for any damage (if it happens) you do to your phone/ data!
